Guangzhou Municipal Engineering Design & Research Institute Co.Ltd (GMEDRI) was founded in 1949. The institute is engaged in Planning, Engineering Design, Consulting, Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC), and Whole-processProject Management. With over 1000 employees, GMEDRI has a group of professional experts including surveying and design masters of Guangdong Province, and 42 professor-level senior engineers. The institute has ten management departments, ten production departments, two subsidiaries and seventeen branches. Postdoctoral research stations and multiple national, provincial, municipal scientific research platforms have all been well set-up at the GMEDRI. GMEDRI’s business scope covers various fields of roads, infrastructure construction and related industry, including the specialties of water supply, wastewater treatment, roads, bridges, underground space development, environmental engineering, urban landscape, architecture, planning, hydraulic engineering, rail transportation, fuel gas, geotechnical engineering, surveying, inspection testing, EPC, and others. The comprehensive capability of the GMEDRI has placed it among the top echelon of municipal engineering companies in China.
With “building a beautiful living environment” as the mission, the institute adheres to the concepts of high quality and elaborate designs. GMEDRI has accomplished more than 8,000 projects of engineering design, consultation and EPC projects. Over 800 projects have been granted national, ministerial, provincial or municipal Science and Technology Progress Award and Excellent Design Awards. Our projects spread around the whole country, in over 20 provinces. In recent years, GMEDRI has been developing and applying several core technologies which are leading in China and are internationally advanced, such as water pollution treatment engineering, urban drainage water and flood control, sponge city, urban expressways, integrated transportation hubs, Bus Rapid Transit systems (BRT), ecological new city construction, highway engineering, underground integrated pipelines, and related areas.
GMEDRI adheres to technological innovation as the driver of sustainable development of the institute, and applies a production research integration system guided by market requirements. GMEDRI actively pays attention to new technology, new materials and new technology applications. Innovative ‘first time’ achievements have been made several times in China. Many projects organized and designed by our institute became ‘new innovations’ and the first such project in China. GMEDRI has been awarded 57 national, provincial or ministerial levels Science and Technology Progress Awards. GMEDRI owns more than 190 engineering patents, and has more than 300 pending patents applications. GMEDRI has one National Science and technology innovation platform, seven provincial and municipal science and technology innovation platforms, and has completed more than 40 national, industrial and local design codes. GMEDRI provides strong technical support for urban construction and high-quality development in our project cities. GMEDRI was recognized as the Excellent New High-tech Enterprise in 2008. In 2014, GMEDRI was rated as the benchmark enterprise of independent innovation in Guangdong Province.
