What is the definition of Water Sustainability?
Water Sustainability can be defined as waters and their related natural and engineering systems that meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Why wastewater is a resource?
Wastewater is also water but contains various impurities that have entered the water during utilization. The typical impurities include organic substances (COD or BOD) and nutrients (TN, TP etc.). Traditional wastewater treatment is to separate these impurities from water. The separated water can be reclaimed for further uses, and the separated organics and nutrients can be recovered as usable materials, including the energy they contained. Therefore, by proper manipulation, wastewater can be turned as a resource.

In the whole world, we are facing serious problems of water shortage, aquatic environment deterioration, urban flooding and so on, which cannot be easily solved if the traditional paradigm of resource development and consumption is not to be changed.
