Content Sharing of IWA World Water Congress in Copenhagen

The first webinar in a series for Content Sharing from the 2022 IWA World Water Congress in Copenhagen was held on October 27, 2022. The webinar series is jointly hosted by the International Forum of Water Sustainability (IFWS) and Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology (XAUAT) and co-organized with the International Science & Technology Cooperation Center for Urban Alternative Water Resources Development (Int’l AWR Center). Delegates from the IWA Fellows Greater China Interest Group (IWA-FGCIG) and IWA China Young Water Professionals (YWP) attended this event online. Also, over 12000 researchers, technologists, and students joined the webinar.

Prof. Rong Chen from XAUAT first introduced the background of the IWA World Water Congress in Copenhagen. He specified that the key elements, including the Opening Ceremony, Keynotes, and Closing Ceremony of the congress will be shared and illustrated in the webinar series in the weeks ahead.

 

Prof. Xiaochang Wang, as an IWA Board Member, gave a brief overview of the IWA World Water Congress in Copenhagen. He illustrated the main theme, Water for smart livable cities, and six sub-themes as well as seven keynotes of the congress.

In a speech, the IWA Executive Director, Prof. Kala Vairavamoorthy commended Prof. Wang for organizing the webinar series, citing the great opportunity that it provided for the Chinese delegates to share the key elements of the congress and thus enhance the influence of IWA.

Afterwards, a video of Opening Ceremony-1 was broadcast in the webinar. Tom Mollenkopf, the IWA president and representatives of the Congress Organizing Committee, Danish Water and Wastewater Association, and Technical and Environmental Affairs of Copenhagen gave welcome speeches in the first part of the Opening Ceremony.

In the end, delegates from Tsinghua University and Tongji University expressed their perspectives regarding the IWA Congress, and the topics of climate change and water solutions, which generated broad interest from the attendees and stimulated wide-ranging discussions.
